The World Wide Web is an Internet-based tool that uses standards for document presentation, graphical software and distributed computers to display and link images, text, motion and sound from resources in disparate locations throughout the world. These features, plus its ease of use, make the WWW an increasingly popular publishing and distribution medium for this campus and for scientists, students, clinicians, and researchers worldwide. UCSF makes World Wide Web (WWW) servers, communication networks, and workstations available to support and promote the mission of the University: teaching, research, patient care, and community service. These guidelines, policies, and laws emphasize the public nature of the Web and the responsibility of publishers and users. At the same time the campus recognizes and supports the First Amendment rights of its faculty, students, and staff.
